EVERLASTING

“I’m an electrical designer in Akron. I have a beautiful wife and child. And I’m a worship leader at my church. I love games both board and video, soccer, and disc golf as long as it’s above 40 and sunny.”

“I’ve been coming to camp since I was 4 years old when my parents dropped me off for Day Camp. After I got settled in and became more comfortable with my new friends, I knew that my first week of summer camp was going to be awesome. Ever since then I was hooked. I was always super excited to come to camp for the summer. My parents made me come to camp for the first year, but every year after that I came back because I wanted to, for the community. My best friend, Brandon, and I went to Wanake together every year.”

“Wanake was a good environment for me. The new location pushed me out of my comfort zone. I learned how to start a fire, sang new and different worship songs, and played the guitar. I found that if there was steam coming off the pool, the early morning swim would be amazing. Wanake was my first exposure to music that was not classical or country. The worship music after meals and during our camp wide worship was how I connected with God. I learned to worship with an acoustic guitar at camp with the songs “Light the Fire” and “Sanctuary.” The song “Pharoah, Pharoah” will always be one of my favorites. Even today it randomly pops into my head, and I’ll end up singing it all day long.”

“The camp community is so incredible at bringing people of different backgrounds together. The connections you build at camp are incredible. You form this community that doesn’t stay within the property lines of Wanake but branches out into the world around you as well. Camp is a special place for Christians to build each other up. Camp breaks isolation with stories as small groups become willing to talk about faith and life. Camp gives kids a place to explore their faith independent of their home turf, and because of the wide variety of campers and staff members, you learn a wide variety of different things and gain new perspectives of the world around you. I hope Wanake continues to be a place for people to meet each other and form a community that not only exists at camp but also extends into the world beyond, giving campers lifelong friends and memories.”

Your generosity allows Wanake to welcome a diverse group of campers and staff. Trained staff allow God to build a Christ-centered community in which campers like Alex experience lasting, positive impact. Thank you for making an everlasting investment!
